Detailed History: The second child of Kveikja and Julian Lenoir was an unexpected thrill. Their daughter, their first child, had their dark hair, dark eyes, and beautiful tan skin with freckled cheeks and nose - Varian's pallid complexion and pigmentless hair and eyes set him apart from others, especially his family. Being that Julian and Kveikja were so very wealthy due to Julian Lenoir's very successful chain of European apothecaries, Varian and his older sister were raised in lavish homes all over France.

In public school, Varian was often chastised for his stubbornness and lack of compassion for other pupils. He failed to understand why, and serving detentions only frustrated him further. Never really being taught a lesson, his misbehaviors continued throughout his muggle academic career.

When the Lenoir family moved to the UK, Varian, ten years old, was already very familiar with English because of his father's business relationship with the language, and he was also very familiar with magic, because of his father's business relationship with the practice. His Hogwarts letter was no surprise, although his mother was dissatisfied with the school, convinced that her son should have been invited to Durmstrang Institute, but with too many muggles in their family history, it was no surprise to Julian why there had been no letter from them.

Varian's Diagon Alley shopping trip was comparable to a day of money-spending by a muggle movie star; Varian insisted upon every item which so much as looked like it might come in handy once or twice throughout seven years of magical schooling - he insisted upon the finest cauldron, the prettiest mortar and pestle for potion-making - and all brand new textbooks. Of course, it was likely just pocket change to Julian Lenoir, who shelled out galleons to send his boy off to Hogwarts with the best of things.

Perhaps all of it came in handy, at Hogwarts. Varian's grades were spectacular in his first year, and he only improved upon them. Now in his seventh year, with outstanding OWL scores in Astronomy, Potions, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, Varian's concentration upon school is broken only by his occasion submersion in the world of circulating school gossip. The Slytherin common room is certainly not immune to rumors and, probably, lies about the most popular troublemakers or class clowns, and Varian is a prime propagator. His weakness is topped off with another obsession, latent but always present: boys. It might be subtle - a classmate passes too close, and Varian's eyes slowly pass over him from his hair, to his shoulders, down his back and arms and legs. It might be overt - a wink across the classroom in the middle of Greengrass's lecture.

Varian's plans for the future are uncertain, but his studies focus mainly on potions and astronomy.

Detailed History: Raziel's first experiences with clairvoyance were welcomed by his parents, who were absolutely thrilled to know that their firstborn was something more than just a wizard, but a Seer. Although the predictions were, admittedly, predictable, his talent as a Seer wasn't overlooked by his family, who urged him to pursue Divination in school. His mother's second pregnancy was unexpected, even to Raziel, but his failure to foresee the event was just a minor mistep, to his parents, who were far too excited about their second child to be disappointed about the shortcomings of their firstborn.

Just ten years old, at the time, with his hand on his mother's swollen, pregnant stomach, a vision hit Raziel's inner eye quite suddenly and painfully: a slippery newborn, blue and cold, limp, unmoving, and silent. Although his knowledge of babies was little, he was sure this was wrong. Helene Fendulang's worried gaze met her son's dark eyes and she asked what was wrong; he told her, nothing.

His little sister was stillborn. The guilt swallowed him for months, until his mother stopped crying every night. Months before he left for Beauxbatons, his first year, his mother revealed to him the story of the dark lord, Voldemort. She had supported him, in secret so as not to be hunted by the Ministry, and she had once worked as an agent with the Death Eaters for her talent as a Legilimens. She wanted to pass her talent onto her son.

Because of his inherent skill with clairvoyance, he picked up Legilimensy with notable speed. At Beauxbatons, Raziel was slow to make friends, and most of them fell out with him because of his oddities and interests. Only one girl ever showed a romantic interest in him, and when she was bored with his lips and hands, she moved on. He tried not to look at boys the way he knew he should have looked at girls, but to hell with convention, he thought.

Detailed History: Maximilian Greengrass was a sour, aging man when he found Maribeth. She said she didn't care about the money, and how many times had he heard that before? But this time - perhaps he was losing his mind - he believed it. This woman was so much younger than him, and so beautiful, he feared that time was running out. He married her. She became pregnant.

Daphne, as a baby, was not extraordinarily quick. People like to brag about when they learned to talk and walk, or what their first word was, but nothing was terribly impressive about Daphne's infancy (excluding the fact that she was born to incredibly wealthy people). As a growing child, her tantrums were a force to be reckoned with, and were all but unavoidable if a desire was denied. With the birth of the second daughter, Astoria, Daphne reacted with jealousy, fear, and a lack of understanding for the baby. Even with age, Astoria endured endless tormenting from her older sister, and sometimes, phyiscal abuse.

It was a relief to Daphne when the letter came, inviting her to Hogwarts; muggle school was boring, and difficult, and there was far too much mathematics and science. Maribeth and Maximilian sent her to school with expensive bags and clothes and shoes, and everything that an eleven-year-old girl could want. In writing to her parents, she found that they were not surprised in the least that she had been sorted as a Slytherin, and as she came to know her house-mates, neither, she found, was she. Pansy Parkinson became a close friend of hers, and together they were sharp-tongued teenaged queens. But the war was drawing closer, and the Death Eaters were hitting close to home with their dark magic.

Through Voldemort's reign, Daphne, though a Slytherin, resisted the Death Eaters. After her school years, her father funded her travels around the world; what she had always wanted to do with her skills in the dark arts was to learn other cultures' uses of them. In the southern United States, she studied Voodoo - in West Africa, she learned about Santeria - in Thailand, Ya Sang. On her return journey from east Asia, she learned of her father's death, and in experiencing the grief of loss, Daphne matured.

Astoria graduated from Hogwarts with an engagement ring from Draco Malfoy, which didn't sit right between Daphne and her old friend, Pansy Parkinson, who had looked toward a bright future with the pointy bastard. Daphne supposed maybe Pansy had some sort of bad karma for treating war heroes the way she did, but she never mentioned that. Astoria was married to Draco Malfoy in a much quieter fashion than would be expected from such wealthy families, but the young Greengrass insisted, and her groom complied.

The wedding gave Daphne an empty feeling in the pit of her stomach. She told Astoria she was crying because she was happy, and because the ceremony was so beautiful, but her tears were selfish. She worried that she might grow old and bitter alone, a husbandless hag. So she rushed into relationship after relationship, and she could never catch herself before she said things she didn't mean. Things always ended quickly. Her philosophy on commitment changed, and instead of attaching herself to any man who was willing, she detached herself from romantic emotions altogether. Love - here, now, no strings attached.

After writing independently and publishing two studies on the uses of dark magic around the world, Daphne's schedule became tiresome and boring. Her anthropological dark magic studies earned her credit when she applied for a job as a professor of defense against the dark arts at Hogwarts.

Detailed History: Regina Pyxis' five-night stand in muggle London, on vacation from the boring every-day of middle America, ended in a baby bump she named Vela. The child never questioned the whereabouts of her father as she grew, even as she clearly recognized that something was missing. Regina, although a talented witch, made little money at the small wizard bar where she was a waitress; she told people Vela inspired her to get going, to apply for a job at the Ministry, and people believed her, but she never did it. When Vela was old enough to comprehend that her mother was pissing her life away at a dead-end job due to poor planning and a stupid mistake she was raising in a horrid apartment, she resolved herself to never end up the same.

Regina had scraped together enough money to prepare for Vela's invitation to Salem Academy; Vela applied herself one hundred percent to her studies, and found an affinity for herbology. Although she was not particularly talented at many subjects, she did immerse herself in international affairs, which Salem Academy prided itself on; eventually, Vela noted that the British Ministry of Magic was taking notice of her. At the end of her seventh year at Salem, she submitted her NEWT scores and resume to the Ministry of Magic for a position overseas.

To her delight, the Ministry responded that they would be pleased to place her in a position at St. Mungo's; her qualifications in herbology earned her a job in the greenhouses, where she assisted in growing ingredients for brewing blood replenishing potions, topical salves, and other such healing solutions.

Although she prided herself on her success and all the difference between her and her mother, Regina's vice trickled down and Vela inherited her mother's propensity for romantic flings with one-sided emotional attachments.

After five years of work in the greenhouses at St. Mungo's, Vela desired a change of pace from the constant running up and down of staircases and ins and outs of balmy greenhouses, and the constant weird earthy smell of her fingers; the present nurse at Hogwarts school was planning on retiring, at the time, and Vela took the opportunity to apply for the job which would be opening. Needless to say, she was taken on as the new nurse.

Detailed History: Tristan Yaxley was born to a fiery, unstable woman who disappeared promptly after his birth, but not before leaving him on the doorstep of her parents. Living in a small Irish town, half of which still spoke Gaelic, the parents took in the colicy baby without hesitation and raised him like a son.

He grew into a smiling boy, big and gentle, with blue eyes and freckles and a disarming grin that got him out of more trouble than he deserved. However, he was occasionally afflicted with black moods; when he got a letter from a place call Hogwarts and a visit from a strange bearded man in a pointed hat, this did not improve. His grandparents had vague recollections of relatives running off to perform magic, which they assumed was charming family folklore, but this had changed their perspective. In fact, they were thrilled at the prospect of a little wizard running around their house.

With the little money they had, they bought what they could for their Tristan. The sorting hat sitting too big on his head sorted him into Slytherin after ample consideration towards Hufflepuff. Maybe things would have been different.

Smiling Tristan soon turned into scowling Yaxley, whose robes were second- or third-hand, whose relatives as far as his family tree could reach were Muggles through and through, and whose aptitude with magic seemed mediocre at best. He was hard pressed to fit in with his Slytherin peers and spent a disproportionate amount of time trying to fit himself into the jigsaw of pure-minded prejudice.

Teenaged finnagling for acceptance was all well and good, but his persistence was unwavering, and in his seventh year, he went as far as to get his Dark Mark like many of his classmates. In the present day, it is nothing but a tattoo of which he is irrevocably ashamed. Yaxley was of the belief that by joining the Death Eaters, his own Muggle family would not be targeted. The opposite scenario played out, and the grandparents and cousins he had, in his later life, tried not to love, were murdered in an exercise to test loyalty.

Yaxley snapped. Rogue and out of anybody's control, he became a law unto himself, as the war drew more and more dizzyingly to its close. By any number of miracles he wasn't caught by the Death Eaters and managed to receive pardon after the war.

Damaged and arguably deranged, Yaxley has managed to keep one thing constant in his life: Quidditch. Scouted in his seventh year, Yaxley played professional Quidditch for twenty three years before retiring his position to come to Hogwarts and show the students how it's done. He also occasionally plays as an alternate professionally, or in amateur matches to keep up his skill. He is an extremely talented keeper and an outstanding beater, with talent as a chaser but absolutely none as a seeker.

Despite his former Slytherin status, Yaxley displays no favoritism towards his former house when it comes to Quidditch. He cares nothing for house rivalries and, as he ages, looks only for a love of the sport in students.

Detailed History: Wizarding China was in a state of turmoil in the years of Ji's infancy; her father, Tian Xie, and mother, Shui Ping, worked with delicate intelligence for the Chinese Ministry during these years, and despite their newborn baby, were convicted of treason and were executed. Both Tian Xie and Shui Ping had been muggle-born, and Ji's muggle grandparents refused to rear a grand-daughter of magic blood. Turned over to the muggle authorties on orphaned children, Ji was soon adopted by a non-magic family in England. She was six years old.

After a year of living with her adopted family, she began to resent them, the man especially. Sometimes, in ushering her forward with a touch of her back, his hand would slide farther down. Sometimes when she was dressing he would touch her bare chest with his cold, rough hands. She knew that was wrong. She would lay awake at night and wish for a lock on her bedroom door. Things continued this way.

Her Hogwarts letter came as a total surprise to the couple who adopted her, but they were somewhat excited to know that they had brought a witch into their home. Ji could not wait for the day she would leave the house; with all the necessary supplies and then some, she boarded the Hogwarts Express, and did not look back. She made every excuse to not come home for Christmas. If she could have stayed for summer, if she could have stayed forever in the Hufflepuff basement, she would have.

At Hogwarts, not many people got past the frozen exterior Ji had frosted over with years of progressive sexual abuse. Mostly she concentrated on the study of astronomy, which she found to totally absorb her attention. Galaxies and stars and nebulae, and Galileo and Brahe, there was so much to concentrate on, so much in which she could immerse herself. When she wasn't stargazing on the astronomy tower, she was collecting books on ancient runes. The library had a stunning amount of text on it, she found, and it was a fascinating topic.

She graduated and immediately began looking for a career. For three years, she worked at an observatory with a group of astronomers doing what she loved, but when they were dismissed by the Ministry, she had to find other work. For the next two years, she was an assistant cursebreaker for Gringotts, helping decipher runes deep in ancient tombs. It was in the third year of her cursebreaking job that she discovered the position of astronomy professor opening up, and she leapt at the opportunity.
